Andy Golden will receive Institutional Investor’s Lifetime Achievement Award at the sixth annual Allocators’ Choice Awards on September 12 in New York.

The longtime Princeton University Investment Company president, who oversees $35.8 billion in assets, plans to retire in 2024. II will honor Golden for his accomplishments in the investment industry, including his dedication to improving diversity, equity, and inclusion.

Under Golden’s oversight, the Princeton endowment has posted an annualized return of 12.6 percent. The portfolio is equity biased, with a 94 percent combined allocation to private and public assets. Today, 26.8 percent of the endowment is managed by diverse-owned funds.

PRINCO announced in April that Golden plans to retire on June 30, 2024. At the time, Golden said: “It’s been almost a three-decade marathon. My goal for the year ahead is to sprint through the tape and to make sure that Princeton is positioned for success over the next 25 years.”

As 2023’s Lifetime Achievement Award winner, Golden will join previous honorees, including Exelon CIO Doug Brown (2022), Columbia Investment Management Company CEO Kim Lew (2021), Massachusetts Pension Reserves Investment Management Board executive director and CIO Michael Trotsky (2019), Leona M. and Harry B. Helmsley Charitable Trust CIO Roz Hewsenian (2018), and California State Teachers’ Retirement System CIO Chris Ailman (2017).

Golden began his career as a professional photographer after studying philosophy at Duke University. He obtained a master’s degree from the Yale School of Management and afterward worked alongside David Swensen as a senior associate at the Yale Investment Office. After Yale, Golden joined Duke Management Company, where he was an investment director until he moved to PRINCO in 1995.

Today, Golden serves on the board of Park Agency, a family office, and on the investment committees at the Edmond J. Safra Foundation and the Cambridge University Endowment Fund. He is a trustee for the Princeton Area Community Foundation, the Rita Allen Foundation, and Rutgers Preparatory School. He is also a member of the CFA Society New York.

Institutional Investor will celebrate Golden at a dinner at the Mandarin Oriental in New York City on September 12. The dinner will also recognize the winners of the Allocators’ Choice Awards across categories including “Innovator of the Year,” “Team of the Year,” and “CIO of the Year,” among others.

Nominations for those categories can be submitted using this form through June 16. At the event, Institutional Investor will also honor a group of up-and-coming allocators as II Rising Stars. Those interested in attending the dinner can register here.
