Here Are the Winners of II’s 2019 Hedge Fund Awards

Bridgewater, Two Sigma, and the Texas allocator community were among the biggest winners at the 17th annual industry awards dinner.

Ray Dalio’s Bridgewater Associates earned the title of institutional hedge fund of the year at Institutional Investor’s Hedge Fund Industry Awards Thursday evening.

The $160 billion investment firm beat a pool of finalists including Citadel, Millennium Management, Renaissance Technologies, Tiger Global Management, and Two Sigma for the honor, which was announced at an awards dinner at the Mandarin Oriental in New York.

Other hedge fund winners included emerging hedge fund manager of the year Darsana Capital Partners and multistrategy hedge fund manager of the year D.E. Shaw & Co. Elliot Capital Management was named the top event-driven manager, while Bridgewater took home an additional award in the macro hedge fund manager category.

II also recognized investment consultants and hedge fund investors such as pensions and endowments in a series of allocator awards. Texan allocators were well-represented, with accolades going to the University of Texas Investment Management Co., the Teacher Retirement System of Texas, and the Texas Permanent School Fund.

Lifetime Achievement awards were presented to Collette Chilton, the CIO of Williams College, and John Overdeck and David Siegel, co-chairmen of Two Sigma. Two Sigma also picked up a second award as quantitative hedge fund manager of the year.
