Falcon Edge Capital
“The highest-quality guy as an investor, a business leader and a person” is how one fellow hedge fund manager describes Richard Gerson. That view is shared by many who know the founder and CIO of long-short equity, global-markets-focused hedge fund firm Falcon Edge Capital. Gerson boasts an impressive résumé. After working with then-president John Griffin at Tiger Management, he became a founding member of Blue Ridge Capital when Griffin started the hedge fund firm in 1996. He was at Blue Ridge for 15 years, focusing on global equities. As well as being early to invest in developing-markets opportunities, Gerson, now 37, became known for his information network and ability to short-sell. Last year he went out on his own and founded Falcon Edge, joined by Navroz Udwadia, an executive with hedge fund firm Eton Park Capital Management. Falcon Edge’s launch, planned for mid-2012, is among the year’s most highly anticipated.
