For Charles (Chuck) Caffray, managing director in sales and trading at New York–based equities trading house BTIG, a career in finance was a natural fit. His father traded index options for a family office, and with Caffray’s two older brothers also in the business, household conversation centered on the markets. It didn’t take long for the New York native, who moved to Vero Beach, Florida, as a teenager, to follow in his family’s footsteps. In the 15 years since he graduated from Ohio’s Denison University with a BA in economics, Caffray, 37, traded on the cash and derivatives desks of several bulge-bracket firms. He joined BTIG in March 2009, working alongside head of global resources Oliver Wiener, a 2011 Hedge Fund Rising Star. Caffray’s competitive nature has found outlets beyond finance: He plays golf and tennis near his home in Riverside, Connecticut, and coached grammar school basketball for three years in college.
