In holding on to first place, UBS scores its fourth top finish in the past five years. Now under the direction of Daniele Brupbacher, the nine-member, Zurich-based team covers 89 Swiss stocks, in coordination with London colleagues. “They’re on top of local color and well connected to local managements,” reports one London-based money manager, and “very good on financials” in particular. Going forward, top stock picks include Geneva-based Temenos Group, the market-leading provider of integrated software systems to banks and other financial services institutions. The company is well positioned to benefit as “regulatory uncertainty clears in Europe and banks around the world look to improve returns through better cost management,” Brupbacher explains. In addition, the first ten-year user licenses for Temenos’s T24 core banking product are due to expire, and the subsequent renewals will offer “the potential to cross-sell a widening array of complementary solutions — wealth management, payments, business intelligence and multichannel management tools,” he notes. Rated buy, the shares closed last year at Sf25.20, 4 percent below the analysts’ target. Brupbacher, 39, added head of Swiss equity research to his banking coverage responsibilities in February 2013. He joined UBS in 2002 from Wilen-based BZ Bank, where he tracked banks and insurance companies on both the buy and sell sides. He earned a bachelor of business administration degree, with a concentration in banking and corporate finance, from the University of Zurich. |
