Beijing-based Haiyan Guo of China International Capital Corp. leaps from third place to lead this lineup for the first time. She also notches her inaugural No. 1 finish in Consumer/Discretionary this year — and is the only analyst to outshine all other researchers in more than one sector. Guo, 37, earned a master’s degree in financial engineering from Shanghai’s Fudan University in 2001 and joined CICC upon graduation. Her consumer stock portfolio spans diverse industry segments, and “the depth of her team’s research,” one money manager insists, is particularly noteworthy. The analyst’s wisdom was on display, clients say, in her coverage of Shenzhou International Group Holdings, a Ningbo-based vertically integrated holding company whose subsidiaries manufacture and process textiles for knitted casual clothing, lingerie and sportswear. It produces materials for the Adidas, Fila, Itochu, Nike, Puma and Uniqlo brands, among others. “I believe hidden champions such as Shenzhou will be the long-term winners,” she explains, “as they grasp key value along the international supply chain.” Guo recommended that investors buy the shares in May, and by the end of October, Shenzhou’s stock had climbed 3.6 percent, to HK$26.70, edging past the broad market by 1.7 percentage points. — Katie Gilbert |
