Los Angeles Fire and Police Pensions has named Bryan Fujita as its new chief investment officer, following an extensive search.

Fujita is joining the pension fund from the Los Angeles City Employees’ Retirement System, where he has served as deputy CIO for the past 10 years.

He replaces Ray Joseph, who resigned from the post for personal reasons in May 2022 just a year after being named CIO.

“I am delighted to welcome Bryan to our executive team and am confident that he will enhance LAFPP’s investment program amidst a constantly evolving economic environment, with the ultimate goal of serving and protecting the retirement benefits of the plan’s public safety members,” said LAFPP general manager Joseph Salazar in a statement.

LAFPP, which manages nearly $30 billion in assets, announced the news on Wednesday afternoon. EFL Associates’ Daniel Cummings ran the nationwide search for the new CIO.

According to the announcement, Fujita has 22 years of experience in institutional investing.

Before his time at LACERS, he served as a corporate treasury associate at the Walt Disney Company, where he managed both equity and fixed income investments for the $4.5 billion pension fund. He also served in various wealth management roles at Wedbush Securities.
