Joshua Levin Citi
Last year survey participants inducted Joshua Levin into the Next Generation, Institutional Investor’s exclusive roster of the best up-and-coming analysts (those who have been publishing in a sector for three years or less). This year the previously unranked researcher comes in at No. 3. Backers praise Levin for his “very good industry pieces highlighting what you should be looking for at companies in terms of their normalized earnings-per-share and a valuation framework” and for “not upgrading the sector before the cycle had turned.” In November the Citi analyst upgraded Bloomfield Hills, Michigan–based property developer PulteGroup from hold to buy, at $9.60, largely on valuation. In April, after the stock had bolted 36.4 percent, to $13.09, Levin urged clients to take profits. Good thing, too: By late August the stock had given up all those gains and then some, ending the month at $8.04.
