Bain Capital has hired James Houghtlin, a former Barclays Capital compliance officer, to head up compliance for Sankaty Advisors, an affiliated fixed-income fund. Houghtlin, who is based in Boston, started with the fund last month and reports to Alan Halfenger, chief compliance officer for Bain.
It could not be determined immediately whom Houghtlin replaced, although the position is understood to have been vacant for months with officials filling in as needed.
At Barclays, Houghtlin was a v.p. of research compliance. He held a similar role at Lehman Brothers before joining Barclays as part of its acquisition of the investment bank in 2008.
Houghtlin and a Barclays spokeswoman declined to comment. An external spokesman for Bain did not have comment.
