Tomás Lajous & team UBS
After two years on top, the duo directed by Tomás Lajous drops to third. In October the Mexico City–based analysts, now with UBS following BTG Investments’ purchase of the Swiss bank’s Pactual division, reinitiated coverage on América Móvil with a valuation-based buy recommendation, at 29.21 Mexican pesos. The wireless services provider’s shares plunged 12.1 percent during a little more than one week in January — in what the analysts described as an overreaction to the company’s $21 billion bid for fixed-line provider Carso Global Telecom — and the pair reiterated their buy. The stock had risen to 31.84 pesos by the end of July, a gain of 26.8 percent since the analysts’ original recommendation. “Tomás is able to separate the important from the unimportant,” insists one loyalist.
