Exchange-traded derivatives may escape European regulations aimed at the over-the-counter market. Michel Barnier, commissioner for internal markets, said while some EU lawmakers wanted to extend the regulations beyond their original OTC intent, Werner Langen, the German member of the European Parliament who has been shepherding the measure, said he was content with the original scope.
