Mexican tortilla and cornflour maker, Gruma, has repaid more than $800 million in debt, The Wall Street Journal reports. Gruma has redeemed $752.6 million of dollar debts and $64 million of peso debts. The company has used the proceeds from the sale of its stake in banking concern, Grupo Financiero Banorte, which raised about $742.9 million. The company has also used as cash on hand and short-term credit to pay off the loans, which had resulted from derivatives losses made by the company during the 2008 global financial crisis.
