The $225.7 billion California Public Employees’ Retirement System (CalPERS) has floated a request for proposal seeking a multi-strategy index fund manager, Pensions & Investments reports. The selected candidate will be responsible for managing up to $5.7 billion from the retirement system’s trust funds.

The move follows a decision taken in September to look for strategic partners to run a multi-asset class portfolio and offer insights and analytics on asset allocation and portfolio building decisions. CalPERS is also looking for an asset allocation fund comprising U.S. inflation-linked bonds, U.S. nominal bonds, global equity, global public real estate and commodities. Assets in these categories totalled $5.7 billion as of June 30.
