StanBank Unit Gets Nod For Islamic Banking

Standard Bank’s Nigerian unit has received approval from the local government to launch an Islamic banking arm.

Standard Bank’s Nigerian unit has received approval from the local government to launch an Islamic banking arm, Reuters reports. Stanbic IBTC Bank will get six months to comply with the approval terms.

The bank has received a preliminary license for a Sharia-compliant banking branch. Nigeria is looking to roll out the first sovereign sukuk within the next 18 months.
