Morgan Sze
Azentus Capital Management
Faced with slow growth in developed markets, institutional investors are clamoring to increase their exposure to emerging markets, especially in Asia. The problem is that from both a talent and an investment standpoint, Asia as a hedge fund market is relatively underdeveloped — hence the buzz around Morgan Sze.
After running Goldman Sachs’ principal strategies group in Asia, Sze launched Hong Kong–based Azentus Capital Management at the start of this year to much fanfare. His multistrategy firm has a reported $1.8 billion in assets, run by a team culled entirely from Goldman. That Sze was able to amass such a large sum — making Azentus one of the largest funds in the region — during what is still a difficult fundraising environment is testament to both the pent-up demand for Asia-based talent and his own reputation.
