U.S. federal regulators are set to approve the merger of Comcast and NBC Universal by Jan. 18, 2011, The Wall Street Journal reports. The officials at the Federal Communications Commission may approve the deal with along with a number of conditions.
Under the proposed conditions, Comcast will not be able to favor its own content over rivals online and cannot make NBC content available solely to Comcast subscribers. Comcast agreed to pay $5.8 billion to Vivendi and $7.1 billion to General Electric to acquire 51% NBC Universal, adds Financial Times.
