Personal computers maker Lenovo Group is establishing a $300 million joint venture (JV) with Compal Electronics, one of its contract manufacturers, Financial Times reports. Beijing-based Lenovo will own a 51 percent stake in the newly formed venture.
The JV will set up a new plant in Hefei, in the central Chinese province of Anhui, to manufacture laptops and all-in-one desktop computers from late 2012. Lenovo and Taiwan’s Compal will invest in the venture in two phases, adds The Wall Street Journal.
