The Gordon and Betty Moore Foundation has granted $6 million to three universities, Business Journal reports. The California Institute of Technology, University of California, Berkeley, and University of Washington, Seattle, will use the money to research on a Pacific Coast earthquake early warning system.
The universities will work with the U.S. Geological Survey to find the best way to collect and analyze seismic data for a warning system. They plan to seek more funds from industry partners for their work.
