Assets managed by Asian hedge funds may surpass $180 billion in the following 12-18 months following their rising popularity, Bloomberg reports. According to Singapore-based industry researcher Eurekahedge, Asian hedge fund assets were $134 billion at the end of June, against $14 billion in the beginning of 2000.
Hedge funds in Asia contribute less than 10% of the global industry. Long-short equities funds represent 44% of the region’s hedge funds, followed by multistrategy accounting for 15%.
