Matrix Asset Management is launching a New Europe Ucits fund in the second quarter for hedge fund manager, David Thornton, Financial Times reports. The long/short fund will be a Ucits III version of Thornton’s Cayman-domiciled New Europe hedge fund. The new vehicle will mainly focus on Russia, Poland, the Czech Republic, Austria, Greece and Turkey, and is expected to be domiciled in Dublin. Thornton, who joined Matrix to manage the New Europe hedge fund in June 2006, has previously served at Henderson Global Investors as director and head of U.K. institutional equities.
