France’s EDF has withdrawn from talks to acquire a stake in Poland’s Enea from the state, Reuters reports. EDF was planning to buy a 51% stake in the utility for about $1.8 billion. The talks failed as the French utility did not promise to build two coal-fired power blocks in Enea’s power plant in Kozienice, due to risks linked to the European Union’s strict environmental policies. The Polish government may return to the sell-off process at a later date.
