The New Jersey State Investment Council has allowed state’s pension system to increase its investments in alternative investments, Pensions & Investments reports. The pension funds will be allowed to place 38% of assets in alternative investments from the current limit of 28%. The four alternative investment categories are real estate (9%), real assets (7%), private equity (12%) and absolute return (15%). The new rules are set to take effect in May 2011.
