And the best hotels in Europe

The region’s top hotels range from some of the latest in high-rise establishments to time-honored names that date back to colonial times. But whether new or old, these hotels offer luxurious accommodations and exquisite service that rank among the best in the world, according to an exclusive group of financial industry executives that participated in the ranking. The Peninsula Tokyo, one of the newest of the Hong Kong-based group’s hotels, having opened in 2007, wins a rating of 94.7 on a scale of zero to 100. Trailing just behind with a rating of 93.5 is the Mandarin Oriental Bangkok, one of the flagships of the Mandarin Oriental group, which has consistently ranked among the top hotels globally in the II ranking. In third place is the Park Hyatt Shanghai, a two-year-old hotel that boasts a dramatic setting in the 79th to 93rd floors of the Shanghai World Financial Center.

With eight hotels among the region’s top establishments, Singapore ranks as the best destination for travelers in Asia. Tokyo and Beijing place four hotels on the list, while Hong Kong and Bangkok each have three.
