The Universities Superannuation Scheme (USS) has appointed infrastructure fund manager Gavin Merchant from Equitix as senior investment manager for the private markets team, Professional Pensions reports. Merchant will work under head of alternative assets Mike Powell. The £32 billion scheme has also hired three new analysts Tahir Bhimji, Teia Merring and Sanjeev Phakey. Bhimji comes from Lloyds Banking Group Equity Capital Markets & Advisory, Merring from Goldman Sachs International and Phakey from corporate finance advisory boutique Spayne Lindsay & Co. The trio will cover USS’ investment in private equity, timberland and infrastructure.
