Polpx To Trade Biomass, Coal, NatGas

Polish Power Exchange may begin trading biomass, coal and natural-gas contracts within months.

Polish Power Exchange (Polpx) may begin trading biomass, coal and natural-gas contracts within months, Bloomberg reports. Poland and Sweden linked their electricity markets with a 600-megawatt undersea power cable, Swe-Pol link, on Dec. 15, 2010.

The European Union has proposed to develop the region’s electricity market through Market Coupling, a process where exchanges and grid operators cooperate to send power through international cables to places where prices are higher. Polpx entered an agreement with Power Exchange Central Europe and Abwicklungsstelle fuer Energieprodukte in February 2010 to connect their markets.
