Kohlberg Kravis Roberts (KKR) has backed out of the race for Poland’s second largest mobile operator, Polkomtel, Reuters reports. Polkomtel is being sold by Polish state-controlled firms, KGHM, PKN Orlen, PGE and Weglokoks. The auction will value the operator at up to $6.6 billion.A private equity team of TPG and Blackstone are considered to be the most potential buyers for the company. Last month, Polkomtel’s owners shortlisted seven bidders, including Polish media tycoon, Zygmunt Solorz-Zak, Nordic operators, TeliaSonera and Telenor, and private equity firm, Apax.
