Covered bonds could reduce funding costs for Australia’s largest banks by between 35 and 45 basis points, according to a study by ANZ Bank economists. The report comes in advance of the release of draft amendment’s to the country’s Banking Act that would allow covered bonds for the first time. ANZ analysts say the covered bond market in Australia could be worth A$135 billion ($136.9 billion).
