Romania is planning to sell its minority stakes in nuclear and hydropower operators, Bloomberg reports. The stake sale of Transgaz, Transelectrica and OMV Petrom is expected to take place by the mid of 2012. The government may also sell share packages of over 10% of its atomic power company, Nuclearelectrica, and the hydropower generator, Hidroelectrica.
Romania will offload majority stakes is unprofitable coal-fired power plants in Turceni, Rovinari, Craiova and in the PVC maker, Oltchim. The country plans to use the proceeds to finance infrastructure investments. The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, which has spent about €4.1 billion to finance projects in Romania in the past 10 years, may become a shareholder in the sales.
