Illinois Surs Requests State For $1.4B

The $12.5 billion State Universities Retirement System of Illinois, Champaign, has asked the state for a contribution of $1.402 billion for the financial year ending June 30, 2013.

The $12.5 billion State Universities Retirement System (Surs) of Illinois, Champaign, has asked the state for a contribution of $1.402 billion for the financial year ending June 30, 2013, Pensions & Investments reports. The amount requested is 43 percent higher than the contribution for the current financial year ending June 30, 2012.

The Illinois General Assembly had fully contributed the $980.5 million requested by the system for the on-going financial year. Currently, Surs serves 68 employers in Illinois and its employing agencies include public universities, community colleges, and other affiliated state agencies.
