South Africa’s Eskom has signed two loan contracts worth a total of $365 million with the African Development Bank (AfDB) for clean-energy projects, Reuters reports. The loans, guaranteed by the South African government, will allow large-scale renewable wind and solar power generation. The power utility, with more than 90 percent generation coal-fired, intends to contain its carbon footprint and also diversify its energy base. Eskom also plans to commence construction of its wind project in South Africa’s Western Cape province early next year.
