Craig Perry has always had ambition beyond his years. In March 2009, at 29, he and fellow Rising Star Erez Kalir co-founded multistrategy hedge fund firm Sabretooth Capital Management. By then, Perry, a Princeton University economics graduate, had been a distressed-debt analyst for New York–based hedge fund firm King Street Capital Management, a proprietary trader for banking giant Credit Suisse and co-head of the distressed-debt trading desk for reinsurer Swiss Re.

It was in early 2008, while at Swiss Re, that he met Kalir, who had recently left hedge fund firm Eton Park Capital Management. The two hit it off and later decided to start their own hedge fund firm. They launched New York–based Sabretooth Capital Management in March 2009 with a $25 million seeding stake from legendary hedge fund manager Julian Robertson Jr.’s Tiger Management Corp. Sabretooth has proved more than worthy of such support. To date, Perry, Kalir and team have raised $700 million and earned returns of 26.5 percent in 2009 (for just ten months) and 14.1 percent in 2010.
