The U.S. Department of Energy (DoE) has provided a conditional loan guarantee worth $275 million to Calisolar. The commitment has been provided to create a unit that produces silicon for solar cells at half the cost of existing production facilities.
The project will be made in three phases of 5,333 tons capacity each and is scheduled to be located in a former stamping plant of General Motors in Ontario, Ohio. The energy department has offered loans, guarantees and conditional loan guarantees totaling over $33 billion to support 34 clean energy projects, adds Bloomberg.
