Mobile and Internet-services company, Softbank, is planning to promote renewable energy in Japan by building solar power plants, The Wall Street Journal reports. Softbank will work with 19 prefectures across Japan to construct solar-power facilities, with a capacity of about 20 megawatts.
Softbank will finance the cost through project financing loans from financial institutions, while local governments will help secure the land. The investment in the energy project is likely to be equal to several percent of Softbank’s $36.6 billion revenue as of March 2011.
