Telmex is planning to split into two companies, The Wall Street Journal reports. One of the new companies will serve rural and marginalized areas, where competitors have not invested. Telmex Social will pay the same interconnection rates to Telmex as competitors.
The biggest phone company is Mexico, which is 59.4% owned by America Movil, will divide assets, liabilities and equity accordingly. Telmex is considering whether the split will be a spinoff or it will create two units of a holding company, adds Bloomberg.
