This is the year of the quants. According to Alpha’s Rich List, a ranking of the highest-earning hedge fund managers in the world, about half of the top 25 earners used computer-generated investing strategies to generate all or some of their profits. Last year’s top earner, Citadel’s Kenneth Griffin, shares the No. 1 spot with Rennaissance Technologies founder James Simons, who appeared on the list all 15 years — the only person to do so. Each earned $1.7 billion in 2015.
