Wolfgang Ammer is an editorial cartoonist and illustrator based in Vienna, Austria. In his work, he aims to condense complex political situations into visually stimulating symbols. “I expect to provoke both emotions and arguing back,” he says.
Ammer was born in 1953 in Steyr, Austria, and studied art in both Melbourne and Vienna. His work has appeared in the Asahi Evening News, Der Spiegel, Die Zeit, Far Eastern Economic Review, The Miami Herald, Newsweek and others. His cartoons have also been featured in exhibitions in Belgium, France, Germany, Mexico, Japan, Slovakia and Ukraine. Wolfgang Ammer has been with WittyWorld since 1991.
