David Solomon is the ultimate networker. That was true when he was a corporate attorney at Schulte Roth & Zabel, the New York–based law firm expert in hedge funds, and after he went to work for Goldman, Sachs & Co.’s prime brokerage group. At Schulte Roth, Solomon represented private partnerships, investment partnerships and commodities pools but wanted a more hands-on role. He joined Goldman in 1999 to help start the new capital introduction team. Post-2008, hedge funds have needed capital-introduction help more than ever. As global co-head of cap-intro, Solomon, with a master’s in international affairs from Columbia University and a law degree from Yeshiva University’s Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law, provides just that. It doesn’t hurt that Solomon, 39, knows almost everyone of note in the hedge fund industry. The quality of his network helps keep Goldman’s prime brokerage one of the best.
