Rising from runner-up to third place is the UBS quintet piloted by Javier Kulesz, who “knows Argentina extremely well,” asserts one backer. “He knows how the government works, how it should work, the right people to visit, the right questions to ask — and he’s not afraid to ask politicians some very blunt, probing questions.” The analysts, who work out of Buenos Aires and Stamford, Connecticut, believe that Argentina “is headed for stagflation, with the government adopting policies that don’t make us confident that we’ll see economic improvement anytime soon,” Kulesz says. To profit in such an environment, the analysts say, clients should buy shares of foreign companies with operations in Argentina; recommendations include Tenaris, a steel-pipe producer headquartered in Luxembourg, and Canadian mining companies Goldcorp and Yamana Gold. — Paul Sweeney
