Hedge Fund Rising Stars: Sean Murphy

Sean Murphy
Game Creek Capital

Market participants admire Game Creek Capital CIO Sean Murphy, 37, for thoughtful, original insights on his specialty: media, telecommunications services and consumer entertainment. A graduate of the University of Notre Dame with a degree in finance, Murphy became an owner of Boston-based Game Creek in 2008. The hedge fund has seed capital and backing from Richard Mayo, a co-founder of Boston-based money manager GMO. Mayo’s son, Scott, started Game Creek; and Scott, who died in 2010, recruited Murphy from hedge fund firm Vardon Capital Management. Game Creek opened to outside money in 2011 and now has $60 million in assets.
