For asset managers looking to maximize their reach among institutional investors with minimal effort, eVestment CEO Jim Minnick has the solution: Omni, a web-based data collection and distribution system that lets managers update performance data and other information in more than 60 consultant and third-party databases with just a few mouse clicks. “We’ve invested a tremendous amount in getting a new version, Omni 2.0, released to the marketplace,” says Minnick, 44, whose firm’s own database consists of some 59,000 investment vehicles from more than 9,000 traditional and alternative-asset managers globally. Atlanta-based eVestment offers a variety of analytics packages — Quantum, Spectrum and Spotlight — that investors and asset allocators can use to screen for new managers as well as monitor those in existing portfolios. Minnick, who has an MBA from Atlanta’s Emory University and was a consultant with Watson Wyatt & Co. before co-founding eVestment in 2000, says his 250-person firm has been focused on “expanding and enhancing” its technology platforms to integrate its traditional asset management and hedge fund analytics. At the same time, eVestment looks to develop new proprietary data products based on the information it collects from its 2,500 customers. One such product, Advantage, delivers marketing metrics and forecasts future flows among different asset classes and investment strategies based on the research activities of consultants and investors within eVestment.
