At age 12, Danny Kayne was diagnosed with bone cancer in his leg, an experience that shaped his life. He’s since been committed to cancer-related causes. In 2005, having just earned an economics degree from Colorado College, the Woodbridge, Connecticut, native spoke at a children’s cancer charity event. A UBS executive was sitting in the audience. That chance encounter led to a job at the Swiss bank, where Kayne became the youngest member of the investment team for UBS’s fund-of-hedge-funds business. He began covering U.S. corporate credit in 2007, just before the global credit crisis. Last June, Kayne, 32, joined the U.S. division of Albourne Partners, a London-based investment consulting firm with $300 billion under advisement, as a senior research analyst. He remains in touch with many of the managers he got to know at UBS during the market collapse. In April, Albourne made Rowayton, Connecticut–based Kayne a partner.
