In May the Sohn Investment Conference in New York — a well-known charity event, where top hedge fund managers pitch their best investment ideas — added a new feature, Next Wave, and invited a handful of new young managers to present. Nitin Saigal was one of them. Saigal, 32, grew up in Mumbai, moved to the U.S. and earned a BA from Harvard University and an MBA from Harvard Business School. He spent eight years at New York–based hedge fund firm Bridger Management; as a senior analyst he developed Bridger’s international research and investment capacities. He left to co-found Kora Management, where he is CIO, with $50 million from Bridger. Focused on emerging markets and international equities, the fund launched this January. Kora, based in New York, also has offices in Mumbai, São Paulo and Shanghai. At the Sohn conference, showing the courage of his convictions, Saigal pitched a long investment in Bharti Infratel, an Indian telecommunications infrastructure provider that has seen significant short interest.
