The Robert Wood Johnson Foundation has found its next CIO.
May Ng will join RWJF as chief investment officer on April 17, the foundation announced Monday. She will be replacing Brian O’Neil, who served as the foundation’s CIO for 20 years before announcing his plans to retire last year.
Established in 1972 by Johnson & Johnson’s chief executive Robert Wood John, the foundation has grown to be one of the largest health foundations in the U.S. with $14.8 billion in assets under management, according to RWJF’s 2022 financial report.
Prior to joining RWJF, Ng was chief investment officer at the Annie E. Casey Foundation, where she managed a $3.5 billion portfolio. Before joining the Casey Foundation in 2013, Ng was a senior investment officer at The George Washington University, where she was part of a generalist team managing a $800 million endowment portfolio. In her earlier career, Ng worked in management consulting and corporate development.
“We are thrilled to welcome May Ng to the Foundation,” Richard Besser, president and CEO of RWJF, said in a statement. “Her expertise in investment strategy and her commitment to our mission is clear. Under her leadership, we look to further our work to reduce health inequities and help build a Culture of Health in America.”
Ng holds a bachelor’s degree from Williams College and a master’s of public administration degree from Princeton University. She serves on the investment committees of endowments and foundations including Williams College, the William Penn Foundation, the France-Merrick Foundation, and Georgetown Day School.
